Just completed another reading of Love & Sleep, making large and small changes and corrections for the Overlook Press edition. The text had been previously edited (after its initial Bantam appearance) by Ron Drummond, but now I could groom it, removing unnecessary recapitulations (leaving in necessary or particularly well-expressed ones). I doubt re-readers, even careful ones, will find a difference unless they look for one, but in fact there are hundreds (a hundred probably just in this last pass). I used "rapt" when I meant "reft" and now that's fixed, but who remembers where I used "rapt"? I was also able to make corrections of errors noticed by http://stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif (http://petro-gulak.livejournal.com/profile)petro_gulak (http://petro-gulak.livejournal.com/), learned RC and sharp-eyed http://stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif (http://joculum.livejournal.com/profile)joculum (http://joculum.livejournal.com/), to whom thanks are due and acknowledgment will be made. (One of the big effects of printed books appearing and becoming widespread was that scholars could comment on and correct each other's writing -- you could refer to "page 105" of a particular edition knowing that your page 105 and my page 105 were the same. Couldn't do that when we both had manuscripts written out by various hands. Evolving human mind-meld that continues with Internet and LJ).
