Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000R5OFOA?ie=UTF8&tag=flamesrising-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000R5OFOA)

Peel back the layers of reality and behold a stunning realm hidden beneath. One of magic and wonder. Of sorcery and enchantment. Of ancient spells, secret doors and remarkable heroes who protect us from evil. Because this is also a world of dark mysticism, malevolent forces and unspeakable horrors. And within the shadows around us, a supernatural war is waged. But the balance is shifting. Darkness is winning. Yet there is hope... Join us as Dr. Stephen Strange embarks on a wondrous journey to the heights of a Tibetan mountain, where he seeks healing at the feet of the mysterious Ancient One. But before his wounds can mend, Strange must first let go of his painful past and awaken a gift granted to very few. The gift of magic. Empowered as the new Sorcerer Supreme, Dr. Strange now tests his limits, rising up against monsters that push at the gates, facing the most terrifying entity humankind has ever known.

So, my gf and I watched this last week. I'd rate it better than Iron Man, but not as good as the two Avengers films. The fight scenes were entertaining and Dormamu looked creepy, but the plot was very predictable (even for an animated hero movie) and there wasn't enough "magic" in my opinion. They seemed to rely more on swords and martial arts than "spells" (which is somewhat understandable, they had to keep the action moving along).

Still, a great origin story for Dr. Strange. Here's hoping he makes an appearance in some upcoming movies. Say a Defenders or Midnight Sons type adventure.

Matt

In a world... where sentence fragments abound...

Finally, some love for Dr. Strange! I may have to see this...wonder if it's based on the Shambala graphic novel?

Personally I found this to be the best Marvel animated yet. A good meld of new material, the Strange mini, and the old Strange comic readers are familiar with.

See, that is what I was wondering. How do fans of the comics feel about the movie? There seems to be quite a bit of difference between the "magic" in the Dr. Strange comic and that in the movie.

Also, his companion/servant seems a bit more of a mentor in the movie than in the comics that I remember.

Admittedly, most of my experience with Dr. Strange in the comics is his cameos in other folks books and the massive crossover events like Infinity Gauntlet.

I ended up reviewing this film on Flames Rising (http://www.flamesrising.com/doctor-strange-movie-review/) because I really had a lot of horror and dark fantasy elements to it. If you haven't had the chance to see it -- it's worth the price you pay.

I liked it quite a bit as a nice update of the Dr. Strange story. The setting would make a fun RPG campaign, filled with teams of sorcerers protecting an ignorant Earth from demons and monsters.

And I would LOVE a Defenders movie.

Huh. Is that the new thing--spignatures? Spamatures? Whatever. Just for that, you get mocked.

I think there are too many other Marvel characters that have been around for much longer who deserve the spotlight.

Like who--Prince Namor? Give me a break.
