View Full Version : Book index trouble
The index is very slow, and doesn't seem to like author searches, or at least the result listing is odd.
The box of 'finished reading' seems odd. Why would that be need? Just as a reminder to yourself?
I don't like the drop-down on the rating box. I think radio buttons would be nicer and faster.

There's a bug with author searches which can cause the rest of the index to slow down, which is probably what you're seeing.

Yes. Something that I'll personally find very useful, and I suspect some other readers will as well. If it's not useful to you, then hopefully some other features will be as we continue to expand it.

That's largely a question of screen real-estate. Drop downs are much more compact, and help you get more info on a page without scrolling.

I think I got this one fixed today, by-the-by.
Thank you for your quick response.
More comments:
The listing on the front page lists book title and then publisher, which seems very odd. Shouldn't it list author?
When having the list order by 'contributer' it does give a list of author's names...however, when you click on one, it brings you to an odd list of publishers or subjects, which you have to click further to get to a book. Again, when I click on an author, I would expect ot find a list of books, not publishers.
Why do you consider the publisher important anyhow? For collecting purposes of editions and printings? Cover art?
I asked those already. Check my thread below yours.

Yeah, I just saw that :o
The general issue is that RPGnet and Xenagia share a code base for their indices, and so sometimes the defaults I set for one aren't quite right for the other, and so I need to polish up the code further to show what I want on each site.
There are a couple of issues I'm aware of related to authors, specifically the semi-usefulness of the search and info pages at Xenagia, and I'll try and get both of those a priority for next week.
(I try not to program on the weekends, lest I eat up all my free time with the Index, as I did when I first kicked it off, but I can't help from continuing to enter books ;).)
Cool.
If you want advice on organization and setup, I am a librarian and a cataloger. I can't help on programming, but on organizing the information...
