There's been talk for a while that the idiots at TSFC might turn the back half of season 4 of BSG into season 5, run a year later, and it appears no one has knocked any sense into their heads yet:

Galactica freaks: by now you've probably heard that the Sci-Fi Channel is considering splitting the final season of Battlestar Galactica into two parts, which isn't unusual for television or the show itself. What is a bit perturbing is the rumor (http://www.tv.com/battlestar-galactica-2003/show/23557/story/10133.html) that the back end of the season won't air until 2009.

There's also some talk that the Caprica series might come about afterward. Frankly, I think The SciFi Channel would do very well to start looking to new series like this given the quality of their current new shows (Painkiller Jane and Flash Gordon, anyone?)

Here's some more interesting news on everything.

From http://syfyportal.com/news424170.html

First, Razor, which is the movie scheduled for November:

Some aspects of "Razor" was meant to dip back 40 years as well to the original Cylon war, aspects which will now be broadcast as "mini-sodes," but reintegrated into the telemovie on the DVD release in November.

Increasingly, it sounds like we shouldn't bother watching Razor on the air, but just wait for the DVD release, which is occurring almost instantly and will be a more complete show.

Second, Caprica, the potential prequel series:

TV Week's James Hibberd says SciFi Channel executives may not be so quick to cast off "Caprica" as they consider actually moving forward to film a backdoor pilot, and follow the BSG telemovie "Razor" to almost instant DVD release.

...

"Especially if the similarly conceived standalone 'Razor' performs strongly, the thinking seems to be that a two-hour 'Caprica' pilot could justify its expense," Hibberd said. "Worse-case scenario: The pilot is aired and sold as a DVD, recouping some costs. If the pilot is strong, then the network has a new series."

(That's from the same ultimate source as the article I linked to yesterday.)

In http://www.syfyportal.com/news424175.html the claim is also made that all this tomfoolery with BSG and Caprica is because the networks are running scared from a proposed writers strike and trying to stockpile as much material as they can.
