Wonderful to see so many friends, and also Friends, these being overlapping categories. http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif (http://jenlev.livejournal.com/profile)jenlev (http://jenlev.livejournal.com/) surprised me with a gift -- a stereopticon, and a suite of ancient stereo cards showing views of Egypt long ago. How delightful and kind. I got to attend a pnel discussion devoted entirely to moi in which brilliant minds like http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif (http://john-clute.livejournal.com/profile)john_clute (http://john-clute.livejournal.com/) and http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif (http://grahamsleight.livejournal.com/profile)grahamsleight (http://grahamsleight.livejournal.com/) and Liz Hand (can't find her handle -- I mean well you know...) and http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif (http://ron-drummond.livejournal.com/profile)ron_drummond (http://ron-drummond.livejournal.com/) and Alice Turner grappled with the Aegypt Cycle as it now is. I sat next to Jonathan Lethem on a panel about Stanislaw Lem, which resembled the Actor's Dream, as I realized my very slight acquaintance with Lem was as nothing compared to my fellow panelists' deep knowledge (the wise Michael Kandel, Lem's actual translator, among them!) and that I would have to -- no, not fake it, as I can do in those dreams (and in the similar Teacher Dream wherein I face a class to which I am to impart learning about something of which I know nothing) -- but to make some sort of account of myself. I thought it best to confess straightaway my ignorance, and (as always at Readercon) received indulgence. Congratulated http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif (http://nineweaving.livejournal.com/profile)nineweaving (http://nineweaving.livejournal.com/) on her guest of honorship (with http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif (http://lizhand.livejournal.com/profile)lizhand (http://lizhand.livejournal.com/) (there it is!) next year. In the bar I explained to James Morrow my understanding of why there is no death and consciousness contains the universe, and he pointed out a few painful and quite sensible obstacles to my scheme which I admitted to being unable (yet!) to overcome.
