I want to get it (I'm getting to enjoy almost all I read from Stross) and it would be nice to take the opportunity of having a friend on the USA on vacation, as it would mean I can have it for 10 €

There is no way in hell I'm going to do it with that hideous cover, though.

Yes yes, I know Stross even explained the thing, I dont care, I'm not going to endure the mockery :D

I'm reading it right now, and, quite frankly, I am seriously underwhelmed. Stross seems to have blown his entire wad with Accelerando--and, gods know, I can understand why: there's more foresight, imagination, and sheer narrative force jammed into that one book than you'll find in most writers' entire catalogues. I rather like the whole "Robotic Left Behind" scenario, but...honestly, I find the nonstop robot "sex" to be patently ridiculous, as if Stross were trying to make up for his paucity of ideas by distracting the reader with massive amounts of bizarre pseudo-eroticism.

Admittedly, this is not a book to be taken too seriously--the author notes up front that it's a space opera, so there's no point in holding it up to the same standards as Accelerando...but I think the book would be a lot more interesting if he put as much effort into actual characterization as he did into thinking up novel way for mechs to bone each other.

Mr. Pegritz,
May I suggest Glasshouse? Its sort of a sequel to Accelerando and a brain bender to boot, exploring just what one can do with assemblers that can handle people.
