Saga of Seven Suns

There is a book series by Kevin J Anderson that is called "Saga of Seven Suns". I kinda found the first book and thought it looked a little bit like Dune. Has anyone read it and what do you think of it?

I can only comment on Anderson's actual Dune writing, which is to say the prequel novels. They were fun little adventures, but they felt to me like Star Wars.

I'd guess that when writing in his own world he'd shine a bit more, because there wouldn't be expectations, so I'm eager to hear what other people say.
