Are there any Cherryh fans out there? I am curious if there are any similar books to Cherryh's A-U series or similar authors who write about space-from-a-merchant's perspective and social implications of intergalactic trade. Thanks!

I'll have to admit that I could never get into the Alliance-Union material, though I've read and liked some other Cherryh; the Rusalka and Morgaine series, for instance.

You might like Poul Anderson's Polesotechnic league stories about Nicholas Van Rijn. And of course Pohl's Merchants of Venus is a classic, though it's a satirical take on the concept.
