Looks like both Olmos and Sackhoff are saying the Battlestar Galactica is coming to an end after one more season as reported at http://iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2463&Itemid=99 (iesb.net).
When asked about the next season of Battlestar, Olmos had this to say, “This will probably be the most extraordinary season of Battlestar, it’s the final season so, it’s definitely going to be the most vicious.” IESB: Final?
Olmos: You heard it first.
IESB: Are you serious?
Olmos: Very much so.
Although the kinda' sad IESB reporter keeps talking about wanting to cry, I'm pretty happy that in the last few weeks we've had a report of two very serialized dramas (with Lost being the other) coming to an end on their term.
That's the sort of thing that's going to make serial dramas work not, say, the blasphemy that The X-Files became.

There are some reports from Ron Moore that BSG isn't definitively over after the fourth season, but I don't think he'll stretch things out to milk it like the X-Files.

I'd really much rather remember four good seasons of Battlestar Galactica than four good seasons and three crappy ones.

On the other hand, under that formula we might get a musical episode. Maybe even a musical episode with Cylons singing Bob Dylan, but with dancing and "teh funny."
I'm thinking it will end just because of how expensive it is - but then I'm a cynic about this sort of stuff, because all television I admire ends up canceled.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Sci Fi Channel has not decided to end "Battlestar Galactica" after its upcoming fourth season, despite comments made to the contrary by some of its cast members at the Saturn Awards last week.
"Battlestar" star Edward James Olmos was quoted saying the next batch of episodes were definitely the last ones, but Sci Fi countered Friday with a statement.
"For those of you have been paying attention over the years, this is not the first time Eddie has made an announcement about the possibility of the show's end," executive producer David Eick said. "I promise you that when (executive producer) Ron (Moore) and I make a decision about 'Galactica's' future, we'll let you know."
So David is saying that it ain't so. Or it ain't so...yet.
So like I've said elsewhere until Ron or David say it's official it ain't official.
And FWTW Ron has always been very clear on the fact that he's always wanted a five year run, of course he wanted a 5 year run of 13 episodes per season, but be that as it may.
That all said as much as it would pain me to lose Galactica as a weekly series I'm not opposed to the idea of it ended with Season 4. Of course the best case senario would be an inconclusive yet someone hopeful ending of the series with the finding of Earth being reserved for a Big Screen Summer Blockbuster. But that's just a fangrrl's crazy daydream I'm afraid.

Hmm... is it possible that Olmos just wants out of the show? Disturbing thought, I know, since Papa Adama basically owns that show...

I doubt it. He's on the record even in the orginal article that started this whole nasty business that he loves doing the show and would do as long as they'd let him.
He might be telling the truth and just spoke out of turn, cause he's like that. It could also be that's it a Foiler pure and simple, a well calculated statement deliberately made in order to generate some buzz during the ohh soo long hiatus. Expect the rumour mill to progress very slowly but consistently for the next few months, up untill a month or two before Razor I & II get ready to air and then again right before the season 4 premiere.
But again that could be me just talking out my arse.

A flashback movie set on the Battlestar Pegasus, airing on Scifi Channel in Fall 2007 (it will go on sale on DVD a day or two later): considered the first two episodes of the 22 episode fourth season.
All of the regular Battlestar Galactica characters will appear at least once, but are expected to make "glorified cameos"
It is not a "bottle episode", but will set up new plotlines for Season 4.
At least in the early script stage, every character who has ever had a name on Pegasus (From Cain and Fisk, to Showboat and Laird) will appear, though some might be dropped by the final version.
The DVD movie will not take away from the budget planned for the originally 20 episode long "Season 4", but have a separate, additional budget. Not only will it not take funds away from producing other Season 4 episodes, it will actually have a proportionately higher budget compared to 2 normal episodes.
In an interview with military.com, Bradley Thompson said that the DVD movie will be written by Michael Taylor, former Deep Space Nine writer who wrote In the Pale Moonlight and The Visitor, who joined the BSG writing staff in Season 3, and personally wrote "Unfinished Business", "Taking a Break from All Your Worries", and "Crossroads, Part I".
Shooting on the DVD movie starts May 15th, 2007 (shooting starts on regular season 4 episodes on June 6th).
Written by Michael Taylor. Directed by Felix Alcala.
Will introduce a new female character, Major Kendra Taggert from Battlestar Pegasus: smart, intelligent, ruthless, she is daughter of a Quorum delegate who pulled strings to get her onto Pegasus, and considers it a stepping stone on her way to one day commanding her own fleet. Cracks from fear when the actual Cylon attack begins, only to internalize it and turn it into anger and strength; "a woman who would just as likely slit your throat as shake your hand". Will also feature a young Admiral Helena Cain, her father, and a young William Adama (played by a different actor) from back in the days when he was a hotshot Viper pilot.

"Battlestar Galactica" returns in season four with a two-part episode entitled "Razor," and with it, comes a new female character.
For this episode only, we are introduced to Kendra Taggert, a Major from the now-destroyed Pegasus, who lost it when the war with the Cylons started, and is somewhat unhinged now. Her mother was a Quorum delegate who had to call in a few favors to get her aboard the Pegasus, with the expectation Kendra would command the fleet eventually. Another chick in her late 20's, Kendra should fit in with the other female leads on "Galactica" now, not to mention the fact that she could relate to Lee Adama, given their similar circumstances.
The last season of "Galactica" drew some criticism from fans and critics alike for its unbalanced portrayal of its normally strong female characters. President Roslin's cancer has relapsed and she had little to do during Gaius Baltar's trial; Starbuck went more nuts and died only to return in the final moments of the season; and Roslin's assistant, Tory, who has had nothing to do after rigging the presidential election during season 2, was revealed as a Cylon. With this new addition, are we being set up for more of the same? The Amazonian Cylon women also seemed shortchanged last season. I wouldn't mind a little more asskicking.
We can also expect a few flashback scenes with a 20-something Admiral Adama, back when he was a rookie fighter pilot.
The two-part season premiere starts filming next week.

Would be sad if we lose the show, but on the other hand, it would have been 4 of the best seasons television has ever seen.

As seems to be the sentiment, I'd much rather see it end with a mostly tight 4-5 season story that kicks all manner of ass (and it does), than to see it dragged out and milked for its name until it has to be taken out back and put out of our misery.
