Though we're not even done with this year's Stargate, there's an increasing amount of info on what comes next.
Stargate SG-1 is of course coming to an end again, as was announced to much nashing of teeth some time ago. Personally, I was never that won over by the Ori, and think the show peaked some time again, so I'm not too unhappy to see it go. Word is that the Ori arc won't be finished.
However, two straight-to-DVD movies are planned, the first of which is called Stargate: The Ark of Truth which will have the arc-ending Ori story intended for season 11. (All of it in one movie? Whew.)
The second straight-to-DVD movie is called Stargate Continuum and there's not much news on it.
Stargate Atlantis continues next year for its fourth season. I was slow to warm to the show, but I've been enjoying what I've seen so far in the back half of season 3 (though I'm a few episodes behind right now with the wife out of town).
Some CASTING SPOILERS for season four: Sam from SG-1 is signed up for 14 episodes of season 4, with Elizabeth Weir stepping out except for a "recurring role", whatever that all means.
And there's a new Stargate show in pre-production called Stargate Universe. If the suits like it, it'll shoot this summer and come out next winter. Original word had Michael Shanks as the star, but everyone's claiming they never said that now.
Whew.

I think the addition of Sam to the other characters is an awful decision. I wasn't much of an Atlantis fan for the first two seasons, but I've warmed up to it. Rodney really steals the show for me, and I can't help but feel like adding Sam will mess with his character and/or result in less screen time.
Stargate Universe sounds interesting. I'd love to see a show set a bit further along the timeline where humanity has fleets of starships and is starting to actively colonize the galaxy and build alliances. Not original, I know, but I really love the starships and sci-fi elements in the shows.

I'm willing to wait and see. The Rodney/Sam interactions are always fun, and we got to see a few of them recently. However if it decreases the profile of Rodney in the show, that'd indeed be no good.

I agree that Stargate: SG-1 has more than run its course, and the Ori arc really is over the top.
I like Atlantis, and have followed it since it started.
I want to hear more about the new series before I really think too hard about it.

Should be interesting, at least... I'm not sure I like some of the casting changes for Atlantis either, though. Wouldn't Daniel have made a lot more sense to go to Atlantis? Sure Sam is a Tech Geek, but they've got McKay for that already. I don't so much worry that she'll distract from McKay, since I think they've focused too much on him lately... in fact, I worry it will mean that will become the sum of the show, episode after episode of Sam and Rodney. Yawn.
Plus she'll likely take over Mitchell's leadership position. Not good, in my opinion.
The semi-loss of Weir is a waste. Though by this point, they've already wasted the character. So I doubt anyone will ever even notice.
I just hope their new 'baddie' makes the show interesting. And if it is something as lame as the Ori, it might kill the show. They wasted it with the Jenai, they were better than the Wraith any day, even if they weren't much of a threat to Earth. But I look forward to seeing what comes of it... though I also sorta wish they'd move filming to somewhere else. I'm sick of North American Forest planets. ;)

Jesus... you weren't a fan but you watched two whole series of it?

It's not like he said he hated it.
Anyway, I like Sam but I have some reservations about her moving to Atlantis. Daniel seems like he would be the natural choice but maybe Shanks didn't want to do it.
Or maybe Jack thought it would be funny to make Carter work with Rodney for a while.

Sure. I've caught part of them here, part of them there, and ultimately watched the first two seasons. *shrug*
I liked some of the episodes. The rehashed Stargate plots... not so much. Of the more recent episodes I've watched those continue to be the least interesting.
What about you, Jonathan? I know you're a talented Sci-Fi reviewer, what are your thoughts on Atlantis?

maybe I should start watching Stargate.:D
As big a sci-fi fan as I am makes me embarassed to admit I've seen about 3 episodes of the origional series. :o

I'd suggest it. There are really some top-rate episodes in the first several seasons, as they start revealing the mythos, back when everything is new and original. And at some point, when you're ready to stop, I'd suggest that too. The show has never gotten bad, but it's slowly decreased in quality through repetition and loss of actors.
I'm really digging both shows and I freely admit to being tired of Browder and Black getting on shows and then having the shows go away.
Atlantis took an episode or two to grab me but now I really like it. My wife watched an episode recently begrudgingly and now loves it.
Interesting thing with Stargate SG-1 was I watched it on Showtime however long ago that was and then completely stopped watching until Browder came on. So while I like O'Neil...Mitchell is the guy I really enjoy. Some day I'll catch up with the eps in the middle (though I know basically what happened).

Claudia Black is surely my favorite addition to the cast in the last few seasons, and one of the things that keeps the show still lively and exciting for me. Though they have toned down her character a little from her first appearances.
I also missed some episodes in the middle for a while because of SciFi's DVD policies. They always released the DVDs so tight to the new season that I never got the chance to rent the DVDs and watch them before actually watching the new season.
(I finally bit the bullet and just TiVoed a half-season of SG-1 while going through the DVDs, but it really suggested that putting out the DVDs right next to the new season isn't a great way to get people watching a show.)
