This will not surprise http://stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif (http://netcurmudgeon.livejournal.com/profile)netcurmudgeon (http://netcurmudgeon.livejournal.com/) at all.

You are a dog
Or maybe you are a mosquito, you certainly can't be human.

The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 21.1kHz (http://media.ultrasonic-ringtones.com/tones/21101.mp3)
Find out which ultrasonic ringtones (http://www.ultrasonic-ringtones.com/) you can hear!

That is after fifteen years of intentionally trying to destroy my upper range frequency response.

You see, when I was 18, I could hear ultrasonic dog whistles. The security system at the Yale Peabody museum. Ultrasonic television remotes. CRTs.

And they hurt.

It made a lot of things kind of annoying. Like being in a room with a television on. Or plugged in, if it was one of the instant-on ones.

Funny thing is, my hearing isn't particularly sensitive. I don't mind loud noises, and I've actually lost some of my ability to distinguish very soft sounds after years at the Media Mines, which were noisy. And while I have pretty good pitch, it's not perfect by any means.

But yeah. Adultproof mosquito ring tones? Whatever.
