So I get an email from my Netflix clone that Silent Hill is coming my way.
One thing I'm wondering is, as someone whose never played any of the games (or even knows much about them), will this in any way make sense / be entertaining?

I only played about twenty minutes of one of the games (Silent Hill: the Room; shouldn't have tried playing it in the middle of the night alone in a strange dark house) and I thought it was a tolerably good horror movie.

Yeah, it'll make as much sense as it will to anyone. It's a "twist" horror movie though, so it won't make that much sense to anyone. It's not that bad of a movie though...

I know nothing of the game, and don't feel that I suffered from the lack. It's pretty self-contained. I don't think I would describe it as a "twist" ending, exactly. I enjoyed it. However, now I wish there were PC versions of the original Silent Hill...it would be interesting to give it a try.

Well...this one I at least didn't pick 30 minutes in. I'm still confused a day after watching it. So mother and daughter died at the violent climax of the film? Right?
Thinking about this again makes my brain hurt. I did enjoy the movie though.
Is the plot related to the original game in any way? I know they changed the protagonist from a guy to a woman...

Maybe. Or maybe earlier, back when she drove into Silent Hill. (The cop mentions crashing her bike as well, IIRC.)
In general, I think it's the people who haven't played the games who enjoyed this movie more; less preconceptions to be disturbed, and all that.

I dunno... it seems as if "life" and "death" became irrelevant. It's more like they got trapped in Silent Hill's parallel universe forever, or at least that's how I read the ending.
