One Christmas in the 'Fifties I bought my Aunt Aurelia A cylinder of Faberge's Tigress Cologne. I'm not sure that's true. As a fact it stands on the brink Of possibility. Aurelia was Officially the prettier Of the two sisters living in Minneapolis, The one who would have felt entitled To a closet laded with silks and fur. For her there was a world Of luxe, though not, alas, A demi-monde. She worked as someone's Secretary, got tiddly on holidays, And probably died a virgin. She had a hand mirror on her bedroom dresser, Gilt-framed, two-sided, light and dark. Did she like (like me)to stare into the black Mirror? Was there a dark Aurelia that she could see there? An Aurelia who didn't live in Minneapolis. A Tigress Aurelia, whom millionaires Would give their lives for?
