Sad smiles, wise smiles, grim smiles
that say: Poor child, he's heading
straight for hell. Don't waste
your pity on a wretch like that.
But never laughter. Laughter
has no place in church. Tho
if you dare to say so, someone
is sure to stand up and contradict you
with grave indignation. It's just
that God's sense of humor is loftier
than ours. It doesn't need to laugh
out loud. It rests high on a cloud
and looks down and when the time
is right it shits on us. Ploop!
