Usually Mortlake is the most peace-loving not to say somnolent of teddy bears but a story in today's Times, also to be found on the Drudge Report, has stirred him to something like rage. It seems that a British teacher in Sudan (a woman, of course) is to be given 40 lashes for the blasphemy of having named a teddy bear Mohammed. Boys can be called Mohammed but not graven images like teddy bears. And why not have the teddy bear whipped as well: he is the real offender, is he not? But in nations under Islamic law like the Sudan teddy bears aren't supposed to have feelings, or names! Further the name was chosen by all the (7 year old)children in her class, so shouldn't those children also be lashed by strict application of Sharia law?
Mortlake is just beside himself--and has stirred up his friend Marion Beary, as well. They will be leading Protests at the Sudanese Embassy and at mosques all over the city, demanding an apology to teddy bears everywhere. If none is forthcoming they propose a Suicide March on Mecca right in the middle of Ramadan, when they will all Blow Themselves up en masse in sympathy for little Mohammed (and the flogged teacher).
Please tell your own teddy bears to join the Crusade Against Nasty Old Islam (CANOI). If nothing is done now, YOU may be Sharia's next victim!
