This morning's flight from Norfolk to Philadelphia was a breeze - wonderful looking at the shoreline up the coast! There are advantages to flying those cramped & tiny little planes - arriving in plenty of time for my tight connection to LaGuardia - but when I checked the boards, I saw that it was going to be 2+ hours late, and heard "final boarding call" for the previous LGA flight, which was running just a little late . . .I raced to the gate, but the door was closed & no one was there. But I could see the plane sitting there . . . . A worker came along, and in the spirit of "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" (not to mention "You can always ask - all they can say is No!"), I asked if there was any way I could still get on it. I must have looked very woebegone, because she actually carded herself through the locked door and down the gangplank, and came back a minute later to say there was one seat left. I scurried on board, and took the last seat in the last row with extreme gratitude! (I had said I was a StandBy, which was not technically true, but I would have been if I had known! And they very very kindly let me on. See? It works!)
Golden Dreydl Catch of the Day:
Jeff VanderMeer did an interview with me for his Omnivoracious (http://www.omnivoracious.com/2007/12/novelist-ellen.html)column, calling GD "a gem of a book," bless him!
and
Midori Snyder gave it a swell review on the ever-glorious Endicott site (http://endicottstudio.typepad.com/endicott_redux/2007/12/golden-dreydl-b.html). If you want to buy a copy of the book (or 2 or 3), I'd urge you to buy it through Endicott (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/asin/1580891357/theendicotstudio), as a percentage of their sales go to support children's charities.
